THEODORE AND HER FOLLOWERS
"Theodore and her followers" is a large mosaic located in the Basilica of San Vital in Raven. Theodore was the most important Byzantine Empress and she was married with the Justinian Emperor. In this mosaic the figures are flat, with no thickness. It isn't a real scene but express, symbolically, the union between the Byzantine Empire and the Church of Raven, demonstrating the devotion of Theodore to Christianity.
Theodore wears expensive and elegant dresses,a large crown decorated with precious stones and jewelry of every type and colour that seem very expansive. She has dark but bright eyes and nose long but not too much, the mouth red and has white face like snow. Her face is still and beautiful and the expression is serious.
